Alvarion shares jump on 5-year WiMax contract

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Alvarion Ltd. (ALVR) shares jumped Wednesday after the WiMax equipment maker announced a five-year contract with Open Range Communications that is expected to be worth more than $100 million.

Open Range, a broadband wireless provider that uses WiMax technology, will purchase a full range of Alvarion's equipment for a WiMax deployment covering up to 6 million customers in rural areas across 17 states.
