State applies for broadband Internet access grants

LANSING -- Governor Granholm is seeking to use federal stimulus money to expand broadband internet access throughout the state. Granholm submitted a series of grant applications toward that end this week to serve both state residents and businesses alike.

7.2-billion dollars of the stimulus package were set aside for expanding access across the country. 4.7-billion went to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration to expand access and the other 2.5-billion went to the Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service to expand the infrastructure for broadband access...
