Parts Of Cleveland Getting 1 Gbps, For Free – Case Western Reserve University project gets underway in May

Fiber optic test beds delivering 1 Gbps residential connectivity aren't just for massive advertising corporations with colorful logos anymore. Apparently, Cleveland locals will soon be able to upload their local promotional videos to YouTube much, much faster. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Case Western Reserve University is planning to deliver speeds up
to 1 Gbps to thousands of homes "in or near" University Circle in Cleveland.

The university initially applied for $26 million in broadband stimulus funds to connect 25,000 people, but their application was rejected. As such, they plan to move slowly with deployment -- grabbing funding when and where possible...
