Space fighting for better broadband access

18th District US Congressman Zack Space is working to improve broadband access across Southeastern Ohio.

An application was submitted for stimulus money. Space says 7.2 billion dollars of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is going toward broadband access for areas that are either unserved or under-served.

"Our hope is that it is because this broadband access is absolutely important, not just for economic development purposes-although that is a big part of it. It also has a quality of life component that is very, very important, " says Space.

At Recovery.gov this week, there's a YouTube video best described as a plea for help. Earl Devaney, chairman of the federal government's Recovery Act Transparency and Accountability Board, asks that "leading IT businesses, thought leaders, developers, and consumers" join an online discussion to "influence how Recovery.gov is built and operated."

Rural broadband grants coming soon - FierceTelecom

The $2.5 billion to be awarded to rural broadband projects as part of the recently approved economic stimulus package, otherwise known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, must be awarded by Sept. 30, according to a Telephony report.
